Iron and Manganese Standards
- Iron: ≤ 0.3mg/L (World Health Organization standard)
- Manganese: ≤ 0.1mg/L (World Health Organization standard)
Design Recommendations
- If iron is less than 2.0mg/L and manganese is less than 2.0mg/L, aeration can be used. Adjust the pH if it is low and use a single iron removal filter.
- If iron is greater than or equal to 5.0mg/L and manganese is greater than or equal to 1.5mg/L, start with aeration and then use a double iron removal filter. The first filter will remove iron, and the second filter will remove manganese.
- If iron is greater than or equal to 10.0mg/L and manganese is greater than or equal to 2.0mg/L with a pH above 5.5, it is recommended to consult with an engineer for a customized design.
