How it Works:
Groundwater containing iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) is treated using aeration or by adding an oxidizing agent. When the water flows through the manganese sand filter, the iron (manganese) ions are oxidized. During filtration, the water comes into contact with the filter surface, where biochemical and physical adsorption interception occurs. This process causes the iron (manganese) ions to precipitate and be removed from the water. This method is particularly effective in treating micro-polluted groundwater containing manganese, iron, and manganese bacteria. It not only removes these contaminants but also utilizes ammonia as a nutrient source for water metabolism. Other bacteria participate in the process, resulting in the removal of ammonia.
