How to Determine if Groundwater Iron and Manganese Levels Exceed Standards

• Initially, drill a well and collect water. The water will appear clear and clean, resembling tap water.


• However, upon letting the water stand for a while or overnight, it will darken in color, turning yellow or brown and emitting a fishy smell.


• This occurrence is due to the groundwater's high mineral content and its extended exposure to an anaerobic environment, resulting in the presence of divalent iron and manganese ions.


• Once these ions come into contact with air, they undergo oxidation, forming precipitates of ferric iron.


• If you observe the aforementioned changes in the well water, we recommend conducting a water report to determine the specific iron and manganese content.
